Varietal syrah, 20 per cent whole bunch though it can range up to 40 in other seasons. A warmer, oxidative way of making wines. Grape driven tannin so oak not the major factor, spiciness and seasoning surely but mostly a matter of what came off the vine. Chalky, rich, black fruit, from vineyards ranging from 22-30 years, in that precocious sweet spot. Violets, earthy and also supple tannins. Lots of uniqueness and intensity but also energy in this wine. Just now ready to drink with the potential for another 10 years ahead. Drink 2022-2030. Tasted October 2022. Score – 92.
