At first, this wine smells of smoke, an aroma that seems to be part of the area’s terroir and is found in other pinots from Traiguén’s volcanic soils. However, that aroma disappears and everything turns fruity and juicy, with soft, fine tannins. The lively acidity brightens all the way to the finish. For Los Parientes, the selection is made from the nine hectares of pinot noir that the winery has on the volcanic soils of Malleco, in southern Chile. Fermented with its native yeasts (just like all Baettig wines), and with 10% whole clusters among the crushed grapes, this wine was aged for 11 months in barrels, 14% of them new oak. Score – 94.
