Ocio is Cono Sur’s most ambitious pinot. The winery has built much of its prestige around this variety and produces about 4.5 million liters of it annually (it’s one of the largest pinot producers in the world). This Ocio comes from a selection from the historic El Triángulo Vineyard, planted in the coastal Casablanca Valley in the early 1990s. The blend is made after nine months in barrels – 30% of the total volume is held in foudres, and the rest is returned to barrels for another six months. The influence of the oak is evident in this wine, although there’s a thick layer of aromas and fruity flavors behind it in a body of soft, very fine tannins. Acidity is responsible for refreshing it all. A very good vintage of this classic that has been produced since 2003. [Cellar through 2029+.] Score – 94. (Patricio Tapia, guiadescorchados.cl, 2022)
