Gaëtan Mélinon is a young winemaker now working with his mother and sister (Odile and Marine) at the family estate in Morgon. The estate covers 15ha, with 8ha in Morgon. Mélinon is a member of the Racine Gamay group, which also includes well-known producers such as Sylvain Tête. Mélinon’s Chastys cuvée is produced from vines that were planted in 1941, on sandy/granite soils facing to the southeast. Fruit 80% destemmed and vinified with natural yeasts. Andy Howard MW: Dark cherry character. Concentration on the mid-palate but good juiciness and fruit freshness, mineral notes to finish. Fresh and very drinkable, with potential to age. Melania Battiston: Red and black fruits with engaging black pepper spice and Mediterranean scrub, vibrant acidity and silky tannins. A proper example of fine Beaujolais. Victoria Daskal: Dark cherry and mossy earth aromas. Ripe berries with a coating of gentle tannin, generous fruit with a long, tapering finish. Drinking window: 2025-2032. (decanter.com,Jan. 7, 2025)
