Frontonio Supersónico Garnacha 2021

Tasted next to the 2020, the 2021 Supersónico is a fresh Garnacha from an old vineyard at 1,030 meters in altitude on slate soils close to Calatayud that is now in conversion to organic farming. The grapes were handpicked on September 28, fermented with 100% full clusters in oak vats with indigenous yeasts, and it matured in used 500-liter barrels and 2,500-liter oak foudres. The wine finished at 13.5% alcohol and with mellow acidity and freshness. It’s subtle and serious, with flowers and herbs and is elegant more than powerful. There’s a lot more grip in the tannins here, more energy and a nice balance that should make it age nicely. 8,742 bottles were filled in March 2023. Drink date: 2024-2029. Score – 94+.
