From a hot and dry vintage, the Michele Castellani 2017 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico I Castei Campo Casalin offers extra concentration and depth with accessible and intense aromas of dried fruit, fig and prune. Leather, spice and dried tobacco flesh out the finish of this textured and evolved red wine that shows some early signs of aging. Of these three wines by Michele Castellani, this 25,000-bottle blend of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and a kiss of Molinara is the darkest and most concentrated. It ages in barrique for 30 months. The 15.5% alcohol is neatly buried within the wine’s thick texture. Drink date: 2021-2030. Score – 91. (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Dec. 16, 2021)
