Tobacco, dark chocolate and blackcurrants on the nose, something quite meaty and savoury about the nose too. Succulent and juicy, really quite lightly framed despite the concentration, tannins are well integrated and support the crisp blueberry and black cherry fruit. Supple with a nice energy and bounce, doesn’t feel too hot or too much, balanced and harmonious. An enjoyably cool finish too – overall impressive construction and length. Super lively, juicy and delineated. Tobacco, cedar and liquorice mark the finish suggesting this needs time to age and soften but this has excellent potential and should age gracefully. Ageing 20 months in French oak, 50% new. Winemaker Philippe Bascaules. Drinking window: 2026-2040. Score – 96. (Georgina Hindle, decanter.com, July 31, 2023)
