I found good Monastrell typicity and nice freshness and balance in the 2020 Antonio Piernas, one of three single-vineyard Monastrell bottlings, this one produced with the fruit from a 1.2-hectare vineyard planted some 45 years ago with a high-yielding clone that has to be worked to obtain a quality wine. It fermented in stainless steel and matured in 500-liter oak barrels for nine months. It has 14% alcohol and good ripeness and balance. Drink date: 2022-2027. Score – 93.
