This is more expensive than the Chosen by Majestic Zinfandel, but worth the extra spend. Made by Nicole Walsh, former winemaker at Bonny Doon, entirely from Mendocino fruit, this has 20% Sangiovese in the blend, and has spent 10 months in French and American oak (10% new). As you’d expect from Zinfandel, there’s a fair whack of alcohol here and it’s rich and round with sweet spice and redcurrant and black berry fruit flavours. It’s in balance though, and a good choice if you’re in the mood for an easy-drinking robust red, perfect for cold winter nights. Drinking window: 2023-2025. Score – 89.
