The 2016 Montefalco Sagrantino is darkly alluring with a spicy bouquet of cedar shavings and hints of pine, dried black cherries, plums and dusty rose. This is elegant and refined with silky textures and plush red berry fruits, nearly masking the grippy Sagrantino tannins that mount toward the close. It finishes structured yet not severe, leaving a licorice tinge and touches of slowly fading tart wild blueberry. This is expertly balanced and a total pleasure to taste. That said, it will only get better through medium-term cellaring. Drinking window: 2025-2033. Score – 93. (Eric Guido, vinous.com, Oct. 2023)
