Rarely found outside its home in the central Italian region of Umbria, Sagrantino is a grape with some of the highest polyphenol (antioxidant) concentration of any red. The pitch-black skins lead to a wine as dark as ink, with chewy tannins and flavours of plum sauce, black tea, olives, and a touch of cocoa powder. Give this wine a proper decant before serving it alongside a big juicy steak or grilled Italian sausage.[Luca Maroni tasting note not available.] Score – 94. (lucamaroni.com, Nov. 30, 2022)
