With fruit from high-elevation vineyards in Radda in Chianti at 570 meters above sea level with sandstone and schistic galestro soils, the Mazzei 2020 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Badiòla shows tension and linearity over a full-bodied Sangiovese finish. The aromas in this pretty wine veer toward wild berry and blackberry with crushed stone and peat moss. There is a delicate floral note as well. The wine closes with excellent structure and freshness. This still needs time in the bottle. Drink date: 2024-2040. Score – 94+. (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Sept. 21, 2023)
