Exhibiting a sense of place remarkably well, this pinot noir fashioned by Kevin Panagapka of 2027 Cellars, is generously perfumed and poised. The grapes were sourced from a small family-owned site planted 15 years ago in the town of Hillier. Wild-fermented and matured in Burgundian barrels for 18 months resulting in delicate and finely-integrated wood spice in the midst of perfectly ripened red fruit. There is no shortage of verve on the palate and the tannins are lightly grippy. A touch of volatility contributes a bit of edge but doesn’t take away from the wine’s overall charm. Expressive and well-priced. Tasted March 2023. Score – 91. (Sara d’Amato, winealign.com)
