We often hear about the qualities of the cabernet from Alto Maipo, but much less about the cabernet from Alto Cachapoal. Take a look at this example of an Andean red to get a sense of the potential there. It comes from vineyards planted in the late 1990s on alluvial soils rich in stones and gravel, which is ideal for the variety. It doesn’t have the mentholated aromas of its neighbors in Maipo, but rather offers lots of red fruit and herbal notes. The palate is juicy, the tannins are intense and still very young, and the sensation of fruity flavors fills the mouth. Score – 94. (Patricio Tapia, guiadescorchados.cl, 2023)
