Out of a north-facing, single block east of the Hahndorf township, this wine deftly carves a path between richness and depth while sticking to its cool Adelaide Hills roots. Thanks, no doubt, to every skerrick of sunshine that has shone on these 20+ year old vines planted by The Lane’s pioneering owner on ground he knew had a lot going for it. The central backbone here carries a French oak spice and offers proper aromatic sophistication for the price point. Plenty of crimson to purple fruit flavour as well, a subtle brush of tannins towards the finish completing the structural lines, without being overbearing. Its middle weight and good length offer a high drinkability quotient as well. Delicious to boot. Drink by: 2023-2025. Score – 93. (Tony Love, winepilot.com, June 7, 2023)
