The red 2019 Tros de Mas Vilella comes from a plot from the Mas Vilella property (literally the name of the wine in Catalan language) and is a 50/50 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sumoll with 14% alcohol and very good freshness and acidity. It fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured in used 400-liter French oak barrels and amphorae (tinaja) for 12 months. It seems like the Cabernet shadows the Sumoll and the character of the French grape is on top, with herbal and spicy notes, but the palate shows some of the fluidity from Sumoll. It has a medium body and fine-grained, chalky tannins. 6,225 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2021. Drink date: 2022-2025. Score – 91. (Luis Gutiérrez, robertparker.com, Sept. 30, 2022)
