Fontanafredda, the Farinetti’s estate in Serralunga and one of the biggest properties of the Langhe, finally produced a great Lazzarito this year. Dense in the glass with violet and geranium aromas, it opens to reveal wild strawberry and dried cherry. Full of restraint, there’s a lot of minerality and complexity. Firm on the attack and slightly acidic, it’s chewy with a good finish of cherry kernel and orange peel nuance, and sweet tannins. A wine for the long haul it deserves attention as it will develop more complexity and depth with ageing. Drinking window: 2023-2050. Score – 95. (Aldo Fiordelli, decanter.com, Jan. 31, 2023)
